Air pollution and child health: the impact of brick kiln pollution on children's cognitive abilities and physical health in Pakistan

This study explores the adverse impact of air pollution, caused by emissions from brick kilns, on children’s cognitive ability and physical health. A survey children between age 5 12 years was conducted in Peshawar district KP province Pakistan. The concentrations particulate matters (PM10 PM2.5) were found to be higher areas within 3 km radius kilns (treatment group) compared those that are outside this defined (comparison group). By employing propensity score matching method, exposure kiln pollution has significant negative effect These results advocate that, addition increasing direct health cost, also long-term welfare consequences through indirect unobservable effects.
